Highland are currently developing a Framework for Training across Integrated Children’s Services. The primary aim of this is to ensure training is more effectively planned, co-ordinated and delivered so that practitioners receive the right training for them.

A number of training initiatives are available in Highland, and support the implementation of Getting It Right For Every Child (Practice Guidance). These include:
  • Getting It Right in Child Protection and the Highland Practice Model (GIRFEC)
  • Getting It Right for Children and Young People's Mental Health & Children In Distress (Suicide and Self Harm)
  • Violence Against Women and Children
  • E-safety
  • Early years/Parenting Support
  • Children with Additional Support Needs
  • Substance misuse

If you have any training enquiries and are unable to find the answer on this site, please forward your query to: CP.Training@highland.gsx.gov.uk

The Highland Training Framework includes four Programme areas:

Programme 1 - Introductory/Awareness Raising
Programme 2 - Foundation/Skills Based
Programme 3 - Assessment and Intervention
Programme 4 - Specialist and Advanced

These Programme areas give staff consistent information of the level of each course. For example in courses provided at Programme 1 the level of training will assume participants have little previous knowledge or experience of the subject area, or require refresher training in relation to this subject. Courses at Programme 4 level will generally attract some kind of accreditation or certification and are intended for experienced professionals in this subject area.

Training requirements should be discussed with your manager to ensure you receive the appropriate level(s) of training in line with your roles and responsibilities. Managers should ensure they use the the information received from the PDP process to assist staff in accessing effective training programmes.

Further information about all these courses is available by clicking on the links on the left.
